So it goes: SXSW is kicking off tomorrow (officially) and all kinds of rumors of spinning around!

You owe me! I TOTALLY called this Secret Show happening!

For one, I totally called it with the Foo Fighters!  I knew, since their Doc was premiere on Tuesday, that they would be playing a secret show.  Why?  They’ve already played numerous secret shows in the LA area, and what better place to play a secret show than SXSW?  Duh!  Pure rock ‘n roll math, people.  People assumed Saturday, but I pulled for Tuesday–their Doc premieres at 6pm…very early.  And earlier this week it was announced that the Foos are playing their new single ‘Rope’ for the MtvU ‘Woodie’ Awards (hosted by the hilarious Donald Glover of ‘Community’ — who is also rumored to be performing at Ester’s Follies in week in Austin) Wednesday night at the Austin Music Hall.  Apparently the, cough, ‘Woodie’ awards are going to show live on the MtvU station and is geared at college kids (you can’t see it, but I’m doing the universal air ‘jerking off’ motion) See the link here, or don’t.  It’s really up to you: www.mtvu.com/tag/2011-mtvu-woodie-awards/

So, long story short: Tuesday, Whitley Building, post doc premiere.  My goal: get in to both, baby!

Now to something far less interesting in the rumor mill:

Kanye West is rumored to be playing the VEVO Power Station at midnight on Saturday and 19th.  See:  

I wish this is more cool, but:

1. It is not 2004.

Hey, Tool! Don't you know that when Mtv names you the "2010 Man of the Year" you are a small push from the fall from fame? God, Mtv! Really!?

2. I saw him 2 years ago when he played a surprise show at the Perez Hilton party at SXSW and, well, truth be told, there was free Tito’s Vodka and Fuse, and I actually do not remember the show.  I also do not remember eating that Caesar Wrap that I ended up waking up next to and left in pieces around the apartment…and I somehow made it home.  Anywho!

A REAL secret, bad ass hip-hop show would be Jay Z.  Now THAT would be news worthy.  Or the Gaga lady.  Not sure that a rap artist on the way out counts as a star powered secret show.  Last year there pretty much were no secret shows.  Lots of Twitter rumors only to pan out as duds.  Plus, isn’t SXSW all about seeing new bands on the up-swing?  Yeah, that’s what I’m into.

Who do I want to see?  I heard the band Agesandages (Friday, 18th, 8pm at Rusty Spurs) and they sound very Polyphonic Spree.  Sounds interesting and I love me some large, happy cultish bands every now and again.

A band that I am EXCITED to hear: Guadalupe Plata.  They are from Spain and have an amazing blues sound. They have been compared to the Black Keys, Rolling Stones or John Lee Hooker.  Wicked.  

So, the gun is fired tomorrow and it is an 8 day sprint to the end.  I’ll keep this thing as updated as I can, and luckily with Wi-Fi everywhere, it shouldn’t be too much of a problem.

Look out, SXSW! Here I come!
