SXSW – Foo Fighters show Recap and More Rumors!

Yes, I was this close to Dave Grohl.

Wow.  That is all I can say today.

So:  I was correct in predicting myself getting the chance to go to both the doc and after show.  Where I was wrong was the location.  I’d heard a lot of different venues, and to be honest, was unsure of where they would end up and how it would work.  But when I went to stand in line for the Doc, everyone had on these florescent wristbands with the Foo Fighters logo and I instantly thought, ‘What the hell?  Where’s mine?!’  Not too long after, I was given a wristband and asked if I would like to attend the after party at Stubb’s BBQ a couple blocks away.  I told the gentleman who put it on me that he just made a major moment in my lifetime.  He looked at me with a kind of pity, that maybe I should have more significance in my life than just a rock concert, but hey, I’m a simple girl.

Mr. Grohl telling us about this documentary: or as he calls it "The movie where as time goes on, you watch us get fatter."

We got into the Documentary and it was fabulous!

Foo Fighters at SXSW: Nate, Dave, Taylor, Chris & Pat!

The film itself was touching, funny, smart, well-put together and just real.  And honest.  It was the first time I have not seen Dave Grohl portrayed as the ‘nicest guy in rock ‘n roll’.  It was tough to watch as the band go through growing pains, and overall a great triumph story for all the members.  The film, Foo Fighters: Back and Forth, will be showing in various theaters around the country and on VH1 Rock Docs in April, so everyone will get a chance to see it.  To the honest, the show gets you real hyped up to the the Foos perform live, so a guaranteed show afterwards is the only way to go!

NOW!  We got into the doc and took a cab to Stubb’s to wait in line for the show.  When we got into the show, we immediately were given wristbands (again) to get free food and alcohol.  Score!

At around 9pm, the Foos went on, and played their new album in its entirety.  And it is really good.  I would need another listen, but I like it.

They then played a ‘Greatest Hits’ Set list:

One By One, Times Like These, My Hero, Learn to Fly, Pretender, Stacked Dead Actors, Monkey wrench, Everlong, Best of You, This is a Call.

Awesome.

Dave, Taylor, Nate, and Pat Smear! He's alive and still playing with the Foos!!

So all in all–one of a best nights I’ve had in a long time!

But more rumors have surfaced:

  • According to the sources I have read, it is confirmed that Kanye is playing the Vevo Party on Saturday at the Seaholm Power Plant at midnight.  Whether you need a badge is beyond me.  I’m sure you have to sleep with the door guy to get in, but if you really want to see him…
  • Rumor has it The Strokes are having a day party at Molotov on 6th Street before they hit the big stage at Auditorium Shores.  But that’s kinda interesting: the real news is that Alison Goldfrapp is expected to be there!  Nothing is truly confirmed or real, but hey, there is always a little bit of truth in every rumor.
  • And in a surprise moment: Queens of the Stone Age are playing La Zona Rosa tonight as part of SXSW.  Holy crap.  In a kind of odd fantasy/hope, I pray Mr. Grohl is either playing or just there.

That’s all I got for now!

Keep you updated with as much info as I can!
